Pinhole camera
Sunday, June 7th, 2009Ever thought of making a pinhole camera? If you have a digital SLR camera, it is really easy, and you can see the result instantly.
I took the lens off of my D3, and taped a piece of aluminium foil in front of the opening. Then, very carefully, I punched a hole approximately in the center with a thin needle.
This is what the camera looked like:
This is the result (click for a larger version):
Not too bad I think. The photo was taken with a 2 seconds exposure using 3200 ISO.

BCG vaccination
Tuesday, January 13th, 2009
The BCG vaccination is basically a vaccination against tuberculosis. It is the first in a series of vaccinations Junya is going to have and this one was give at the general hospital in Aizu Bange. Considering what a surprise it must have been for him (to feel pain for the first time since he was born!) he took it very well. Of course he cried, even before he actually got the shot, but also after. But he soon forgot all about it, and was happy again!
Junya is now officially a big baby! Manaka’s mom said somewhat surprised after Manaka had been weighed that she was now 6.9 kg! But Junya, he got the first prize today with 7.95 kg! And remember, he is only 4.5 months. His height/length was also measured and he is now 65.3 cm. He was only 62.5 when he was 3 months old.
All the photos from the hospital are up now and can be seen here:

On the way home we went to Aizu Bange and saw the market called Hatsuichi. That means “first market”. We bought some snacks/food for dinner, and a a little “wind mill” for Junya. We also bought okiagari koboshi tumble dolls. The story goes, that if you have one child (a family of three) and you buy four dolls, you will have another child! So.. of course we bought four dolls. ![]()
Vaccination
Check 2009 fotosne her:
Ski trip to Alts Bandai
Monday, January 12th, 2009
Now where we live with Takako’s parents, we are very close to a lot of popular ski places. Alts Bandai for instance is only about 45 minutes away if we take the highway.
I went there today with Takako’s brother and his family. The weather was perfect in the morning - clear sky and soft snow. But in the afternoon it started snowing and it got quite a bit colder. I spent most of the time skiing with Takako’s nephew Yuuta on the easier slopes, but there were still plenty of challenges for me!
I recently bought new Atomic carving skis in Off House a recycle store in Wakamatsu. They had no rust and no dents, so my guess is they have only been used a few times. They were really easy to ride and a bit shorter thatn the skis I used before, so a lot easier to control.
Some photos from the trip can be seen here:

Thursday, November 13th, 2008
I have uploaded three videos with Junya if anyone is interested
They are taken at Mako-sensei’s place today when we visited her with Junya. Mako works as a nurse and is one of Takako’s former students from when she taught English. She now works at the hospital where Junya was born and that is where we met her. She also kindly wrote Junya’s name with a brush on Junya’s meimeisho after he was born!
Here are links to the videos:
And finally a few images I also took at Mako’s place. The little girl is Mako’s nephew and her name is Yuzuna.
