Today was the last full day at the hospital, so naturally there were many visits!

But before all of that there was some quiet time in the morning for photographs and kisses

We woke up relatively early and after breakfast we were picked up by one of the nurses who told us it was time for his morning bath. Duly supervised by one of the qualified nurses, we went through all the little things you have to do - in correct order (the order specified in the official baby bathing book). After dipping, soaping, rinsing, etc. at all the designated places we took him up onto a dry cloth where he was promptly padded dry, given a diaper and finally dressed in his usual outfit: an underskirt and a little dressing gown!

When he came back to the room he was completely calm (and warm) and we positioned him in a little snow angel shape (see pic 2).

The first visitors were Steve and Junko who brought their own little wonder, 8 months old Sophie. Steve got to hold little P-chan, and later when Takako’s sister Keiko came, we took a comparative photo of Sophie and P-chan. Amazing how much they grow in just 8 months!

In the afternoon Katsushi’s sister Kimiko and her daughter Kayoko also came by to see P-chan. Below you can see Kimiko holding P-chan.

Diaper changing is an integral part of baby care from day one. I first thought that he would have to be changed approximately the same number of times that an adult goes to the bathroom. But I was soon to discover that little babies they don’t care when they pee or poo, or whether they do it at the same time or not.

So the number of diaper sessions quickly grows to at least 2 or 3 times an adult person’s toilet visits. Sometimes you change his diaper because you smell poo, and then 3 minutes later, the diaper which you had carefully put on so it sat in a beautiful symmetrical fashion around his waist, now has to be taken off and thrown away because… he just peed!
